The creation of a Commercial Court of Appeal in Abidjan was announced in 2018. Currently, judgments issued by judges of the Abidjan Commercial Court are appealed before the ordinary Court of Appeal of its territorial jurisdiction. However, this could change in the near future.
The Ivorian Prime Minister, Amadou Gon Coulibaly, announced on November 13, 2017, that this court would be established as part of efforts to improve the business climate. This initiative follows the establishment of the High Authority for Good Governance (HABG) and the Abidjan Commercial Court, reflecting the dialogue between the State and the private sector.
This reform aims, in particular, to better regulate the informal sector, which accounts for 93% of employment in Côte d’Ivoire, according to a UEMOA study, and to strengthen public-private cooperation in the country.
